Bus strike disrupts public transport in Schleswig-Holstein

The Verdi union has called for a warning strike in bus transport on Friday, February 27. Affected are cities such as Kiel, Lübeck, Neumünster, and Flensburg, where public transport will largely halt. The strike aims to emphasize demands for improved working conditions.

In Schleswig-Holstein, the Verdi Nord union is calling for a warning strike among employees covered by the public transport tariff agreement. The strike takes place on Friday, February 27, starting with the early shift around 4:30 a.m. and lasting until the end of the late shift, about 5 a.m. the next day.

Affected public transport providers include KVG in Kiel, Stadtwerke Lübeck Mobil, SWN Stadtverkehr in Neumünster, and Aktiv Bus in Flensburg. "It can be assumed that public local passenger transport in the affected regions will largely come to a standstill," Verdi Nord stated.

In Kiel, no KVG buses will operate from the start of operations until the end. However, Autokraft lines and those of Verkehrsbetriebe Kreis Plön will run on schedule. The SFK ferries are also unaffected by the strike. The Kielius airport bus between Kiel Central Station and Hamburg Airport, operated by Autokraft, will continue to run.

The strike is part of a nationwide action day in public transport. It aims to demonstrate to the Municipal Employers' Associations (KAV) that employees stand united behind demands for noticeable improvements in working conditions. "We have now held three rounds of negotiations with the employers and also had one strike day behind us. That has not yet been enough to reach a result," explains ver.di-Nord negotiator Sascha Bähring. Another round of negotiations is scheduled for Sunday, March 1.

Passengers can check the providers' websites for affected lines: KVG Kiel, Stadtwerke Lübeck Mobil, Stadtwerke Neumünster, and Aktiv Bus Flensburg.
