A 14-year-old girl was killed Wednesday morning in Fère-en-Tardenois in the Aisne department. A 23-year-old man was arrested the same evening.
Gendarmerie services were alerted around 8 a.m. after the discovery of the gravely injured girl on a public road. She was walking to middle school when she was attacked with a bladed weapon and died from multiple wounds to the neck.
An investigation for assassination has been opened. The suspect, a 23-year-old man with no profession, was arrested at 6:05 p.m. in Soissons, 25 kilometers from the scene, and placed in custody. According to prosecutors, he may have been a former boyfriend of the victim.
More than 85 gendarmes were mobilized, including GIGN teams and canine units. A listening center and an emergency medical-psychological unit were deployed at the victim’s school to support students.
