A 3-year-old girl was attacked by an 18-year-old woman on her family's patio in Nyköping. The father intervened immediately and held the woman until police arrived. She has been detained on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.
The father was at the grill on the patio when he heard a bang from the metal table. He turned around and saw the woman choking his daughter and lifting her up. Without hesitation, he grabbed her from behind, pulled her off, and pinned her to the grass as she scratched his hands.
The 18-year-old woman had just passed the patio slowly with support staff, looking towards the family. She suddenly turned, sprinted silently at the girl, and carried out the attack without saying a word. The mother, sitting next to the child, tried to scream but could not make a sound.
The girl appeared unaffected afterward and was happy when the father checked on her. Police arrested the woman on site, and prosecutors detained her later. Interrogations have been conducted, and the investigation continues to clarify the sequence of events and motive, according to police spokesperson Martina Gradian: "We are trying to map out what happened and why."
The father criticized the support staff for not intervening immediately and the lack of an ambulance at first, despite potential unseen injuries to the girl's neck.
