The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported a magnitude 5.5 earthquake that shook the Sunda Strait area early Wednesday morning.
The earthquake resulted from subduction plate activity with a thrust fault mechanism. Its center was at a depth of 43 kilometers at coordinates 6.83 degrees south latitude and 105.04 degrees east longitude, or 62 kilometers southwest of Sumur in Pandeglang Regency, Banten.
Shaking was felt in Sumur District and areas of Pandeglang as well as Bogor Regency in West Java on the IV-III MMI intensity scale. No signs of aftershock activity were detected until 03.05 WIB.
BMKG confirmed the quake posed no tsunami risk and urged the public to stay calm and inspect building conditions to avoid hazards.
