Emmanuel Macron announced that the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is returning to its home port in Toulon after its deployment in the Middle East.
The president cited the agreement between Iran and the United States to end hostilities as the reason for the move. The carrier is currently in the Mediterranean Sea.
France is keeping two tripartite mine hunters, accompanied by two frigates and a maritime patrol aircraft, ready to operate in the Strait of Hormuz with partners.
Macron spoke this week with Sultan Haïtham ben Tariq of Oman. The two countries agreed on joint demining operations in the strait.
