The Anambra Government has announced tough measures to address building collapses in the state, including prosecution of engineers and officials if negligence or unlawful actions are established.
The state Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, disclosed the decisions after a state Executive Council meeting in Awka. The council resolved to hold engineers and approving officials accountable and directed intensified integrity tests on mass housing facilities and students’ hostels.
Mefor stated that the measures aim to safeguard lives and property amid repeated incidents. The council approved the steps as part of efforts to deliver quality leadership ahead of the state’s 35th anniversary on August 27, 2026.
