The Los Angeles Angels introduced John Mozeliak as interim general manager on Saturday after firing Perry Minasian the previous day. Club president Molly Jolly hired the former St. Louis Cardinals executive to oversee baseball operations on an interim basis.
Mozeliak, 57, joined the organization after connecting with Jolly through a mutual friend. He outlined plans focused on the upcoming MLB Draft on July 11-12 and the Aug. 3 Trade Deadline while assisting in the search for a permanent general manager.
The Angels have recorded 10 straight losing seasons and currently sit at 34-49. Mozeliak said he intends to evaluate the current front office, coaching staff and manager Kurt Suzuki while building toward sustained success.
Jolly said the move starts a process to improve the organization. Mozeliak, whose contract runs through December, indicated he is open to a longer role but does not seek another extended stint as a general manager.
