Anthropic releases Claude Opus 4.7 AI model

Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 4.7, a new AI model designed to assist developers with complex coding tasks. The company emphasized its improved instruction-following and memory capabilities. This release follows the earlier announcement of the more advanced Claude Mythos Preview.

Anthropic announced the general availability of Claude Opus 4.7 on Thursday. The model aims to support developers and coders in tackling challenging tasks by adhering more precisely to instructions. Unlike previous versions, it interprets prompts literally rather than skipping or loosely applying them, according to the company's blog post. It also features enhanced file-based memory, allowing better recall of information from past sessions and documents, along with support for larger image files and improved chart data analysis. Additionally, Anthropic described Opus 4.7 as more tasteful and creative in generating interfaces, documents, and slide decks, though specifics on taste criteria remain undisclosed. This launch comes shortly after Anthropic revealed Claude Mythos Preview earlier this month. That next-generation model excelled at identifying security vulnerabilities, prompting the company to share it with firms like Cisco, CrowdStrike, and Amazon Web Services to bolster their defenses. The initiative seeks to make tech infrastructure more resilient against AI-assisted cyberattacks from malicious actors. Opus 4.7 incorporates preliminary versions of new cybersecurity safeguards being tested by Anthropic. These measures automatically detect and block requests linked to prohibited or high-risk cybersecurity activities. Described as a diluted form of protections planned for Mythos-class models, they address the growing role of AI in both defensive and offensive cyber operations.

Anthropic has limited access to its Claude Mythos Preview AI model due to its superior ability to detect and exploit software vulnerabilities, while launching Project Glasswing—a consortium with over 45 tech firms including Apple, Google, and Microsoft—to collaboratively patch flaws and bolster defenses. The announcement follows recent data leaks at the firm.

Anthropic has introduced Claude Design, a new research preview tool that enables subscribers to generate designs, prototypes and slides using its Claude AI. Powered by the Opus 4.7 vision model, the tool emphasizes workplace visuals over arbitrary image generation. It is available now to Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise subscribers.

Anthropic announced on Wednesday the launch of Claude Managed Agents, a new product aimed at simplifying the creation and deployment of AI agents for businesses. The tool provides developers with ready-made infrastructure to build autonomous AI systems. It addresses a key barrier in automating work tasks amid the company's rapid enterprise growth.

Following last week's unveiling that sparked global alarms, Anthropic has restricted its powerful Mythos AI—adept at finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities—to select firms under Project Glasswing, including Amazon Web Services, Apple, and Google, after an accidental leak raised national security concerns.

Anthropic's latest AI model Claude Mythos has leaked despite being deemed too dangerous for public release. Financial institutions now face advanced AI-powered attacks capable of exploiting unknown vulnerabilities.

A Palo Alto security firm says it built a working macOS exploit in five days with help from Anthropic's Claude Mythos Preview. The researchers met Apple officials at Apple Park to discuss the findings.

After Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said in late February that the company would not allow its Claude model to be used for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons, senior Pentagon officials said they have no intention of using AI for domestic surveillance and insist that private firms cannot set binding limits on how the U.S. military employs AI tools.
