The joint ATL board decided on Tuesday that bars in several Dalarna municipalities may serve alcohol until 08.00 during the 2026 football World Cup. The decision covers matches airing late at night Swedish time. Bars need permits for each match and must prominently show live broadcasts.
The joint board for alcohol, tobacco and over-the-counter medicines, ATL-nämnden, made the decision on Tuesday to extend serving hours for bars during the football World Cup. It applies to the municipalities of Borlänge, Falun, Gagnef, Hedemora, Ludvika, Smedjebacken and Säter.
Bars must apply for permits for each individual match and focus on showing live World Cup broadcasts. Serving is allowed as long as the match is expected to last, but no later than 08.00. The temporary guidelines apply only during the World Cup period, from June 11 to July 19.
Since the World Cup is held in the USA, several matches will air at night Swedish time, including Sweden's group stage games: June 15 at 04.00 against Tunisia, June 20 at 19.00 against the Netherlands, and June 26 at 01.00 against Japan.
"It is good with some life and that they adapt when something happens," says Gabriella Melin in Borlänge.
