The federal government faces delays in disbursing funds from the 500-billion-euro infrastructure special fund. Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil encounters bureaucratic hurdles and internal party issues.
The infrastructure special fund stands as a key project of the black-red federal government. Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD) intends to use it for renovating roads, rails and schools. He had declared himself “Investitionsminister” on his first day in office. Despite these ambitions the funds are not flowing as planned. According to government circles the cause lies in bureaucratic procedures that block their use. Additionally Environment Minister Schneider from the SPD is delaying an accelerating law. This occurs within his own party.
