BMKG issues heavy rain warning for East Kalimantan

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning for heavy rain accompanied by lightning in several areas of East Kalimantan starting Sunday night.

The warning covers the period from 23.15 WITA on Sunday night until around 01.20 WITA early Monday. Areas at risk include Kutai Kartanegara, Berau, Kutai Barat, Kutai Timur, and Penajam Paser Utara districts.

BMKG stated that moderate to heavy rain may also spread to Paser, Mahakam Ulu, and Balikpapan city. Residents were advised to watch for flooding, fallen trees, transport disruptions, and lightning strikes.

BNPB disaster data chief Abdul Muhari urged local governments and communities to heighten preparedness against potential hydrometeorological disasters.
