Construction of the Bogotá Metro, a major mobility project for Colombia's capital, has accelerated significantly. The contract, awarded in 2019 and received by the current administration at 28% progress in January 2024, now exceeds 70% as of early 2026. Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán announced this on his X account, stating the project is entering its 'home stretch.'
On January 3, 2026, workers completed the 10-kilometer viaduct mark, including the placement of the S503 span, totaling over 10,025 meters. 'Another milestone for the Bogotá Metro. On January 3 we reached ten kilometers of viaduct built... We continue advancing,' Galán noted.
This follows recent developments, including the start of dynamic tests for the first trains in the Bosa workshop yard after track electrification. These tests are a crucial step toward operational readiness, with projections for 90% overall progress by the end of 2026.
In December 2025, the administration secured US$1.060 million in credits from the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank to fund ongoing works.
