Bungie confirmed it will provide the base edition of Marathon at no cost to players who purchased the Deluxe Edition upgrade during the Open Play Week at a discounted price. The move addresses confusion on the PlayStation Store where the bundle appeared cheaper than expected. The studio also extended the free-to-play period for the extraction shooter.
The issue began when Season 2 launched on June 2 with a free download week. Players saw the Deluxe Edition listed for $14 more on the PlayStation Store and assumed it included the base game permanently. Bungie fixed the listing language to clarify that the base game still required a separate $40 purchase after the free period. Players who bought the upgrade before the clarification were set to lose access. For those of you that made this purchase before the messaging was posted on the store page, we’ll be granting you the base edition of Marathon at no additional cost, the Marathon Development Team posted on June 5. The free-to-play window has been extended until June 11, with all progress carrying over to the paid version.
