The St. Louis Cardinals adjusted their starting lineup for Tuesday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after shortstop Masyn Winn was scratched with left thumb irritation.
The team had planned a unique lineup to exploit left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez at Busch Stadium. Left-handed bats Alec Burleson and Nathan Church were initially set to rest.
Manager Oliver Marmol said the scratch forced changes. He noted the original setup would have created interesting late-game options.
Rookie JJ Wetherholt shifted from second base to shortstop. José Fermín moved to second base and Blaze Jordan took third base. Burleson returned to the lineup at first base after learning of the update during batting practice.
