Carlos Yulo offers advice to Eldrew for junior world championships finals

Eldrew Yulo has qualified for four finals at the 2025 Junior World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, receiving advice from his brother Carlos to stay focused yet enjoy the competition. Eldrew showed strong potential in floor exercise, vault, and horizontal bar. This marks a significant achievement for the Yulo family at the event in Pasay City.

At the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City on Thursday, November 20, 2025, 17-year-old Eldrew Yulo delivered an impressive performance in the qualifications of the 2025 FIG Junior World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He qualified for the individual all-around final in 14th place with a total score of 78.332 out of 24 finalists. In floor exercise, he finished second with 14.233 points, behind Russian Arsenii Dukhno's 14.500. In vault, he placed fifth with a 13.750 aggregate score from 14.200 on the first attempt and 13.300 on the second, despite a botched landing. In horizontal bar, he was sixth with 13.700, affected by a 0.3 penalty.

His 25-year-old brother Carlos Yulo, a double Olympic gold medalist from the 2024 Paris Games who recently won gold in vault and bronze in floor at the World Championships in Jakarta in October 2025, offered advice. "Everybody is tired in the finals. It will be a battle of mental strength. For me, he should focus and think about what he needs to," Carlos said in a mix of Filipino and English. "And he should also enjoy. The competition is already hard and stressful so he should enjoy the moment when he is competing."

Carlos added, "It is a big thing for him to have this experience, especially this kind of opportunity because it is a big competition. There are a lot of good gymnasts when it comes to the international level. I’m happy with what he is showing."

Eldrew said, "One of my wishes has been granted, but my job’s still not finished. I will do better [in the finals] and I will give my entire best," in Filipino. "I said earlier if I could enter the finals, I will give my 100%, or more than 100%."

Upcoming finals include individual all-around on Saturday, November 22; floor exercise on Sunday; and vault and horizontal bar on Monday. Other Filipinos like King CJay Pernia (106th) and Hillarion Palles III (113th) also competed in all-around.
