Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch believes Yahya Black is poised for a breakout year after a strong rookie campaign.
Batch shared his thoughts during an appearance on the Snap Count podcast. He praised Black's performance last season, noting that the fifth-round pick exceeded expectations on a crowded defensive line.
"Just based on last year, I'm high on Yahya Black because I felt like he should have won Defensive Rookie of the Year," Batch said. He pointed out that Black recorded more snaps than teammate Derrick Harmon despite Harmon's injuries.
Black is shifting to nose tackle this offseason under new defensive line coach Domata Peko. Batch highlighted the player's size and ability to occupy space, which could help in the run game.
Black will compete with Keeanu Benton for starting snaps at the position. The Steelers also have Derrick Harmon, Cam Heyward and newcomer Sebastian Joseph-Day on the defensive line.
