A LATAM Airlines flight landed in Caracas on Saturday with 163 specialists to assist those affected by Wednesday's earthquakes. The Chilean government also dispatched two aircraft with firefighters and rescuers.
The solidarity flight carried firefighters, rescuers, medical teams and veterinarians from several countries in the region and Spain. Venezuelan authorities received the group in Caracas.
Interior Subsecretary Máximo Pavez reported that two Chilean aircraft arrived in Venezuela: a KC-135 with 30 firefighters on Friday and a C-130 Hercules with 17 rescuers on Saturday. The USAR team was sent to La Guaira.
Pavez noted that the firefighters work in difficult conditions without permanent phone or drinking water connections. The government maintains contact with the family of a deceased Chilean woman and assists another family seeking to return to Chile.
LATAM also coordinated two cargo flights to transport about 100 tons of aid, including equipment for a field hospital. Official figures report 1,430 dead and 3,238 injured.
