The National Statistics Institute reported that the unemployment rate reached 9.1% in the February-April quarter. The figure marks a 0.3 percentage point rise over twelve months and is the highest since 2021.
The National Statistics Institute reported that the unemployment rate rose to 9.1% in the February-April 2026 quarter. A total of 68,299 jobs were created during the period and the number of unemployed reached 944,794 people.
Economy biminister Daniel Mas reacted on social media. He described the situation as “an authentic social drama” and attributed it to more than a decade of economic stagnation in the country.
Mas stated that recovering growth is “a moral duty” and backed the National Reconstruction project. He said “there is no time to lose” because the future of Chilean families is at stake.
