Chinese and Russian forces will conduct joint naval drills in the Yellow Sea this week that include submarine rescue exercises.
The exercises feature anti-submarine warfare, search-and-rescue operations and air defence missions.
One phase will use a deep-submergence rescue vehicle to recover the crew from a simulated disabled submarine, Russia’s TASS news agency reported on Monday.
Such operations focus on locating a distressed submarine and safely extracting its crew, forming a key part of submarine combat support.
The drills reflect ongoing military cooperation between Beijing and Moscow.
