The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group has filed a complaint with the Department of Justice against Senator Robin Padilla and five others for obstruction of justice over Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa’s escape from the Senate on May 14.
Police Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II, CIDG director, said Padilla provided “indispensable cooperation” in the escape. He added that the May 14 departure was part of a coordinated operation, not a simple hitchhike as Padilla had claimed.
The complaint was confirmed on May 28 by Police Maj. Helen dela Cruz, CIDG public information chief. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said drivers, security escorts and owners of backup vehicles have been identified.
Morico stated that a pickup truck used as a backup vehicle was registered to Padilla’s relatives. The CIDG also linked the escape to a shooting incident at the Senate hours earlier. The DOJ will decide on any liability for Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.
