The government and right-wing parties held calls and issued statements to reduce conflict after the announcement of a constitutional accusation against former Finance Minister Nicolás Grau.
Republicans and libertarians announced the accusation on Wednesday over errors in public debt estimates during Gabriel Boric’s government. The move caused annoyance in the UDI and RN due to the lack of prior coordination.
Interior Undersecretary Máximo Pavez stated that the entire right is brave and that the government respects parliamentary powers. Republican leaders such as Arturo Squella made efforts to tone down the controversy.
Chile Vamos lawmakers voiced initial reservations but opened the door to reviewing the background. The accusation could complicate talks on the national reconstruction mega-project.
