A Federal High Court in Lokoja has set aside its December 2025 ruling that compelled INEC to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a political party.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Isa H. Dashen on June 26, 2026, followed an application by the Peace Movement Party. The court found that the earlier judgment affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party, which claimed ownership of the NDC logo but was not joined in the original suit.
NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson stated on Channels Television that the party remains validly registered and has begun steps to challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal. He said all NDC primaries were monitored by INEC and that nominations remain valid.
Vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso met Dickson in Abuja on June 28 and posted that the party would overcome its legal challenges while staying committed to multi-party democracy. Dickson added that the NDC expects to contest the 2027 elections and predicted a massive defeat for the APC if polls are free and fair.
