Cristóbal Campos blasts Michael Clark over CMF sanction

Former Universidad de Chile goalkeeper Cristóbal Campos has sharply criticized Michael Clark, president of Azul Azul, following a sanction from the Financial Market Commission. Clark faces a 65,000 UF fine and a five-year ineligibility period, but he insists he will not resign. Rector Rosa Devés voiced concerns and said they will review the agreement with Azul Azul.

The Financial Market Commission (CMF) has sanctioned the directors of Sartor Administradora General de Fondos, including Michael Clark, president of Azul Azul, the public limited company that manages Universidad de Chile's football operations. Clark was fined 65,000 UF, approximately 2.5 billion pesos, and temporarily barred for five years from serving as a director or principal executive in entities regulated under Decree Law No. 3,538 of 1980.

Clark responded by stating he will not resign: “I will continue to be president of the U. We will appeal in all instances. We will appeal, because I believe many of the defenses against the charges were not taken into account,” he said on Radio Cooperativa.

In this context, Cristóbal Campos, former U goalkeeper and current sports manager at Provincial Talagante, unleashed sharp criticism against Clark on Instagram. “The same clown who kicked me out of the club, who fired me over a phone call, without knowing anything and making excuses to remove me from the club to this day without showing his face. Without waiting for a judge's resolution (sold by FF),” he wrote. He continued: “The same one who left me with nothing despite having a year left on my contract. The same one who abandoned us in the club's bad times and wanted me running outside the pitch for a year like Cañete. The one who now lifts a cup and sells himself to the people while throwing shit at other institutions.” Campos concluded: “If those who know you knew that you have knowledge of what football is. You're just an amateur in a shirt and tie from rugby, one more puppet of those we already know. When you do evil, you can't cover the sun with a finger, inept.”

The rector of Universidad de Chile, Rosa Devés, also commented on the sanction. “The concern is not just now. Of course, now the concern is greater, as many Chileans are worried, and so is the University,” she expressed. She added: “We will eventually have to review our agreement with Azul Azul, I think that's necessary. The University must be better protected from this type of actions.” Devés stressed the importance of safeguarding the institution's symbols and praised the university representatives on Azul Azul's board, highlighting their role in this crisis.
