With one week left before the mandatory mobile line registration deadline, users should check whether their CURP is linked to unrecognized numbers.
The federal government’s mobile registry aims to end anonymity on phone lines to fight fraud and extortion. The Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT) and carriers including Telcel, AT&T, Movistar and Bait provide portals to check lines linked to each CURP.
If an unrecognized number appears, users should contact the responsible company to request cancellation and investigate misuse of their data. Filing a report with authorities is also advised.
Oxxo stores display informational materials with QR codes to simplify registration, which can be done online or in person at service centers. Ricardo Castañeda, director of the CRT, said the measure is part of a broader strategy against crime.
