The Kenya Revenue Authority has issued instructions for taxpayers struggling to log into the iTax system due to outdated phone numbers. The guidance comes as the June 30 filing deadline approaches.
The Kenya Revenue Authority has explained the process taxpayers can follow to change their phone numbers linked to their iTax accounts after concerns emerged about mobile number verification.
A user on X lamented that the phone number he had used to register with for the iTax portal had already been assigned to someone else by the mobile provider, and anytime he wanted to log in to iTax to file returns, a one-time password would be sent to the number. This made the taxpayer unable to file tax returns even as the June 30 timeline neared.
In response, the taxman gave details on how the process should be carried out, advising the taxpayers who no longer use their registered phone numbers to log in to the iTax portal and update their details during the verification stage. "Kindly log in to your iTax portal and once it prompts to verify the mobile number, where it is written Mobile number delete the old number and then enter your current number then click on send verification to receive the OTP, and enter the code and login," KRA explained.
