West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi summoned Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein, known as Om Zein, to his office in Bandung to explain a Sundanese song that drew criticism.
The song titled 'Lalaki Langit, Lalanang Bejad' introduced by Om Zein sparked controversy for being seen as demeaning to women. Criticism poured in on social media after the track went viral.
Om Zein explained that the song lyrics originated from a poem he wrote in 2020. He described it as reflecting his spiritual journey as a lost wanderer before becoming regent.
Dedi Mulyadi clarified that the work related to Om Zein's past as a wild man. He quoted Om Zein's admission that the song told his own story.
Om Zein said the song served as a reflection of gratitude for being created male. He mentioned higher risks if he had been created female with a similar wild character.
