Madrid president Isabel Díaz Ayuso stated on May 7 that Mexico is two steps from Venezuela due to institutional and justice control.
Díaz Ayuso spoke from Mexico during her institutional trip that started on Sunday and ends on May 12. She criticized security problems with hundreds of thousands of disappeared people and drug trafficking affecting the entire country.
The leader defended the homage to Hernán Cortés as something good and necessary. She accused Sheinbaum's government of reinventing history and installing nationalism and hatred.
Claudia Sheinbaum responded in her morning conference by recalling massacres and abuses by Cortés. She cited a 1548 edict from Carlos I of Spain ordering the release of indigenous people enslaved by the conqueror.
