Sohei Niikawa, former president of Nippon Ichi Software, presented Demons' Night Fever during a hands-on session at Anime Expo 2026. The strategy RPG features a peon recruitment system and strict chapter deadlines.
Niikawa leads the project alongside his alter ego Roman Kitayama as scenario writer. The game is a collaboration between Drecom Co. and his studio SuperNiche, with Arc System Works as publisher and a planned 2026 release.
Players gather units called peons, carry out misdeeds for stat boosts, and manage resources to upgrade protagonist Killshiro Katanaka. Abilities include siphoning health from peons or sacrificing them for explosive attacks.
Niikawa told attendees that the title uses open tools such as Unity to enable faster multiplatform development after leaving Nippon Ichi Software. He described the shift to independent work as restoring creative freedom.
The 45-minute demo highlighted the need to balance peon investment against time-limited event battles. Resurrected peons return with improved stats, adding a layer of progression distinct from Niikawa's earlier Disgaea series.
