The Paramount+ series Dutton Ranch wrapped its first season with a fatal shooting that leaves the killer's identity unresolved. Actor Juan Pablo Raba, who plays Joaquin, discussed the twist in an interview. The episode also introduced new developments involving pregnancy and hostages.
In the season finale, Oreana discovers her father Rob-Will bleeding from a gunshot at the Jacksons' home. Viewers see Joaquin in a car with a gun earlier, yet no scene confirms he fired the shot.
Raba told TVLine that the script showed doubt and heartbreak rather than resolve. He suggested Mariano might have arranged a backup plan and noted the killer appeared experienced.
Other plot points include Oreana learning she is pregnant and Mariano taking Carter hostage at the end. The episode also covered cartel ties at the 10-Petal Ranch and conflicts involving Beth, Rip, and Everett.
Raba said the open ending allows for storylines in season two.
