The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency has launched the Egyptian Cotton Festival initiative in cooperation with Cairo Governorate and the Egyptian Marketing Studies Foundation to bolster cotton-based businesses.
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) announced the initiative on 17 May 2026 during a meeting between CEO Bassel Rahmy and Mahmoud Hassan, Chairperson of the Egyptian Marketing Studies Foundation board of trustees.
The programme targets micro, small and medium enterprises in cotton furnishings, textiles, spinning, weaving, ginning, dyeing and related supply chains. It will provide financial and technical support, help firms meet export requirements and obtain necessary certifications.
MSMEDA will coordinate access to incentives under Law No. 152 of 2020 and Law No. 6 of 2025. Cairo Governorate is sponsoring the effort to expand market linkages and replace imports with competitive local products.
Rahmy noted alignment with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly’s directives to strengthen small industries. Hassan said the festival aims to restore Egyptian cotton’s global standing through improved marketing and international partnerships.
