On Tuesday, Egypt's Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with executives from Siemens Healthineers Egypt to discuss proposals for establishing specialised oncology and radiotherapy centres, while expanding cooperation to upgrade diagnostic and treatment services. The minister highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in bolstering the country's healthcare system, especially for cancer care and medical imaging, and stressed the need to prioritise remote areas and Upper Egypt to ensure equitable access to advanced services and ease the burden on patients.

Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated that the meeting reviewed ongoing collaboration, including the replacement and upgrading of CT scanners, MRI systems, and cardiac catheterisation equipment in public hospitals. Discussions also covered progress on setting up a medical equipment refurbishment and replacement centre in 6th of October City.

Siemens Healthineers outlined plans to support oncology centres in Upper Egypt and at the Nasser Institute with advanced radiotherapy technologies, such as the Halcyon system, which offers faster, high-precision treatments to boost capacity and cut waiting times, according to the ministry. The talks explored creating a radiology control hub to link multiple hospitals as a pilot project, along with developing specialised diagnostic and radiotherapy centres across Upper Egypt as part of Egypt's push for “health equity”.

The two sides also addressed workforce development, including advanced training programmes for radiologists and technicians. Initiatives include training 200 technicians on modern imaging systems and establishing simulation-based technical training centres. Senior health ministry officials and Siemens Healthineers executives attended the meeting.
