National Coloured Congress leader and MP Fadiel Adams was granted bail of R10,000 with strict conditions by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on 15 May 2026. Magistrate Wendalyn Robinson ruled after considering arguments from both sides in the fraud and justice obstruction case linked to the 2017 murder of Sindiso Magaqa. Adams had been arrested on 5 May at the Parliamentary Village.
Magistrate Robinson addressed Adams directly from the bench, stating that she implored him to respect the criminal justice system as it had respected him. She noted his family ties, parliamentary position and roots in South Africa when assessing flight risk, concluding that the interests of justice allowed his release.
The state had opposed bail, arguing Adams might interfere with witnesses or evidence related to the alleged obstruction of the Magaqa murder probe. Conditions include reporting twice weekly at Mitchells Plain police station, residing in Mitchells Plain or Parliamentary Village, and avoiding contact with prosecution witnesses.
The case was postponed for three months and will resume on 14 August 2026 at the same court to complete the investigation.
