Federal Police carried out the sixth phase of Operation Unha e Carne on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro. Agents seized nearly one million reais in cash and arrested Senate candidate Márcio Canella.
The operation targeted a money laundering scheme involving gas stations. Items collected included 919,000 reais, 13,000 dollars, one rifle, nine handguns, 11 luxury vehicles and other objects.
Márcio Canella, former mayor of Belford Roxo and ally of Flávio Bolsonaro, was preventively arrested after a rifle was found in his car. He was initially targeted only with a search warrant.
Marcus Amim, former Rio Civil Police secretary, was also among those targeted. Part of the cash was found at a company in Niterói.
