A federal judge in Florida appointed by President Donald Trump has shifted his stance on the detention of immigrants, now following a recent appeals court ruling that grants bond hearings in certain cases.
U.S. District Judge Raag Singhal issued an order on Friday directing that a detained immigrant receive a bond hearing under 8 U.S.C. §1226. The decision marks a departure from his earlier rulings in similar habeas corpus matters, where he had upheld the government's view of mandatory detention under 8 U.S.C. §1225(b).
