Paula González, former PP councilor in Navalmoral de la Mata (Cáceres), has denounced the sexist treatment and abuse of power by Mayor Enrique Hueso, leading her to leave the party after receiving no support from leadership. In a letter to the media, she explains that she sought protection from early in the year without response. She now regrets attempts by her former colleagues to discredit her.
Paula González, non-affiliated councilor in Navalmoral de la Mata (Cáceres), recently left the Popular Party (PP) due to the "sexist treatment" and "abuse of power" by Mayor Enrique Hueso. In a letter to the media on December 19, 2025, González details that from early in the year she conveyed her discomfort to the party leadership through various channels, with respect and discretion, but received no solutions.
"I did it with respect, with discretion and with the hope that the situation could be rectified," she wrote. Later, she sent a formal letter requesting "protection, listening, and mediation" to work in an environment of respect and dignity. However, no measures were taken. An audio from the PP's regional spokesperson, José Ángel Sánchez Juliá, reveals that leadership knew about the situation and feared repercussions: "If they tag us with sexist treatment, there will be trouble".
González received messages like "Hang in there," "you know how Enrique is," or "we'll talk to him," which she found "especially painful." After deep reflection, she decided to leave the party to remain consistent with the values she defends. She thanks Sánchez Juliá's sensitivity, though it did not lead to concrete actions.
Now, she feels hurt by attempts to discredit her, such as those by general secretary Abel Bautista and candidate María Guardiola, who link her departure to electoral ambitions for December 21. "I am not writing these lines from confrontation or resentment. I do so from the need to explain my truth and defend my dignity," she concludes, committing to continue working for the neighbors with responsibility and dialogue.
