Francisco Lindor is likely to return to the Mets lineup at Citi Field this week, possibly as soon as Thursday against the Cubs.
The Mets shortstop has been out for two months with an injury. At the time he was sidelined, the team stood at 8-16. Since then, New York has compiled a 26-27 record and remains on the edge of the National League playoff race.
Lindor is viewed as a key contributor when healthy. Teammate Juan Soto described his defense and bat as elite. Second baseman Marcus Semien called him one of the best in the game and welcomed his addition to the lineup.
Concerns remain about Lindor’s readiness after the long absence. He is coming off a slow start to the season and has dealt with multiple injuries in recent years, including back trouble, a fractured toe and wrist surgery. Pitcher Sean Manaea said the team is eager for his presence despite the adjustment period ahead.
