A 600-metre freight train derailed in Bollebygd municipality on Thursday afternoon. Trafikverket says restoration work may take around two weeks.
The accident occurred early on Thursday afternoon. About ten wagons on the long train left the track. No one was injured and police confirm the train was not carrying dangerous goods.
Train traffic was halted between Göteborg and Borås. Routes between Göteborg–Stockholm and Göteborg–Kalmar are also affected. A total of 19 trains were impacted on Thursday, according to SJ.
The cause is believed to be a sun kink due to high temperatures. Trafikverket noted damage to poles and overhead lines. Hanna Ekberg, section manager at Trafikverket, said in a press release that clearance and restoration work is estimated to take about two weeks.
Artist Siw Malmkvist was among the affected passengers. She was evacuated and returned to Göteborg by replacement bus.
