Frictional Games has delayed its sci-fi mystery game Ontos to 2027. The Swedish studio announced the shift to meet its goals for the project's size and depth.
Frictional Games revealed the delay through a post on the official Ontos account. The message stated that Ontos represents the developer's most ambitious game yet in scale and narrative layers. To deliver on this vision the release has been moved from its original 2026 window to 2027.
The title was first shown in December 2025 at The Game Awards. It features tactile systems-driven gameplay and an immersive story with actor Stellan Skarsgård in the cast. Ontos marks the first project after the studio decided to reduce its focus on horror titles while keeping its signature style.
No specific new release date within 2027 was provided. The developer said further updates on the game its characters and world will come soon.
