Gears of War: E-Day, the next mainline entry in the Xbox franchise, is scheduled to launch on October 6 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. The prequel will feature new movement mechanics and a large campaign.
The game is set before the events of the original Gears of War and will focus on the early Locust attacks on Sera. It includes a campaign estimated at 14 hours with collectibles and optional side objectives.
Players can expect 2-player split-screen co-op on Xbox and up to four-player online co-op. Multiplayer modes will return, though wall bouncing has been altered. Creative director Matt Searcy said the change aims to balance the experience.
An open beta is scheduled for August, with early access on August 6 for those who pre-order. A new PvE mode called Horde Siege will support 12 players across larger maps.
The storyline from Gears 5 remains on hold for now, according to brand director Nicole Fawcette, who noted the team remains proud of those entries.
