The government is proceeding with plans to remove the quantity discount in sentencing for multiple offenses despite criticism from the Council on Legislation.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer of the Moderate Party presented the proposal at a press conference as the second step in the government's comprehensive penal reform. The change means individuals convicted of multiple crimes will no longer receive a reduced sentence.
The proposal has drawn criticism from the Council on Legislation but the government has chosen to move forward regardless.
