The government has suspended the meeting scheduled for this Wednesday on the regional financing reform and set it for September 4 following a request from PP-led regions.
The Finance Ministry has granted the postponement requested by PP-governed autonomous communities. Department sources explain that the government keeps the dialogue channel open and had already offered technical meetings in June.
Minister Arcadi España has expressed hope that PP regions will prioritize citizens' interests over instructions from party headquarters. The goal remains for the new model to enter into force on January 1, 2027.
Catalan councilor Alícia Romero has accepted the delay but called for approval in 2026 so it applies next year. She noted the reform would bring 4.686 billion euros annually to Catalonia.
ERC president Oriol Junqueras has criticized the postponement at the PP's request and demanded faster processing so the model is approved before year-end.
