The Recording Academy announced five new Grammy categories and several rule updates on June 16. The changes will apply to the 69th annual awards, scheduled for February 7, 2027.
The new categories include Best Asian Pop Music Performance, Best Latin Song, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance, and Best Traditional Folk Album. The additions prompted the renaming of two existing categories to Best R&B Solo Performance and Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Rule changes include raising the maximum submissions for Best New Artist from three to four. The threshold for new recordings on eligible albums drops from 75 percent to 66 percent. Internet-only releases now qualify for Best Album Notes and Best Historical Album.
Grammys CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said the updates reflect growth across the music industry. The ceremony will air live on ABC, Disney+, and Hulu.
