Grigor Dimitrov criticizes ATP ranking system ahead of Wimbledon

Grigor Dimitrov has spoken out against the ATP's ranking structure as he prepares for Wimbledon. The Bulgarian, currently ranked No. 169, received a wildcard entry after a challenging comeback from injury.

Dimitrov, 35, described the system as unfair during an interview with Punto de Break. He noted that points are lost quickly after defeats and that injured players face steep drops without protected rankings.

The former world No. 3 reached the Wimbledon semifinals in the past but now defends just 200 points at the event. He arrives after a quarterfinal exit at a Challenger tournament in Dublin.

Dimitrov is scheduled to compete at the Mallorca Championships before returning to the All-England Club. He said he feels grateful for the wildcard and is focused on the present rather than past injuries.

Similar concerns about rankings have been raised by players including Daniil Medvedev and Roger Federer in recent years.
