GTA 6 delayed to November 2026, prolonging PC release wait

Rockstar Games has delayed Grand Theft Auto 6 from May 2026 to November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The postponement extends the anticipated wait for a PC edition, which has not yet been officially announced. Take-Two Interactive cited the need for additional time to achieve high polish as the reason for the delay.

Delay Announcement

Rockstar Games announced the delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 7, 2025, pushing the release from its previously scheduled May 2026 date to November 19, 2026. The game remains targeted for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no changes to those platforms mentioned. Publisher Take-Two Interactive stated that the extra time will allow Rockstar to "finish the game with the high level of polish players expect and deserve," adding that the team has their full support to deliver an "unrivalled blockbuster entertainment experience."

Implications for PC Release

The delay impacts the expected PC version, which Rockstar has not officially confirmed but is anticipated based on historical patterns. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick noted earlier in 2025 that PC has become increasingly important to the business, stating, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." He added, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

Rockstar's past releases show varying waits for PC ports. Grand Theft Auto V launched on consoles in September 2013 and arrived on PC in April 2015, an 18-month gap. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed consoles in October 2018 with a PC release in November 2019, about one year later. The original Red Dead Redemption took over 14 years for a PC version, arriving in October 2024.

A former Rockstar developer, Mike York, explained the approach: "The PC version is kind of the version that's in the background, that is running the two versions and building them." He noted that Rockstar prioritizes platforms that sell best initially, with PC serving as a foundational build.

Broader Context

The delay comes amid high expectations for GTA 6, predicted by analysts to sell 40 million units in its first year. It follows an original late 2025 target, marking the second major postponement.
