Harry Maguire has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United, keeping him at the club until June 2027 with an option for another year. The 33-year-old defender declared himself one of the best in the world while expressing desperation to make England's World Cup squad. Speaking from the team's training camp in Dublin, he highlighted his recent form and international ambitions.
Manchester United announced that Harry Maguire, 33, has agreed to a new deal extending his stay at Old Trafford until June 2027, including an option for a further 12 months. The contract features a reduced basic salary from his previous £190,000-a-week terms but includes performance-related clauses linked to Champions League qualification. Director of football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire, saying: “Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.” Maguire added: “Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour.” He joined from Leicester for £80m in 2019 and has made 266 appearances, winning the League Cup in 2023 and FA Cup in 2024. He will miss the next Premier League game against Leeds due to a red card in the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth. Maguire spoke confidently about his abilities after being frozen out earlier under Ruben Amorim but thriving under interim coach Michael Carrick, starting every game and helping United to third in the Premier League. Opta data shows his 78% aerial win rate leads the league. Even Amorim noted his set-piece threat. “I still believe, even at my age, I’m arguably one of the best defenders in the world in both boxes,” Maguire told BBC Sport. Looking ahead to the World Cup in North America, Maguire is eager for a spot in Thomas Tuchel's squad, calling it potentially his last. He earned a recall in March after 18 months out, playing 90 minutes against Uruguay and substituting in a 1-0 loss to Japan.
