Hyundai Motor signs MOUs with Singapore agencies for low-carbon and mobility technologies

Hyundai Motor Group signed memoranda of understanding with Singapore's Economic Development Board and Home Team Science and Technology Agency during the APEC summit in Gyeongju to develop low-carbon technologies and future mobility solutions. The partnerships emphasize hydrogen energy, robotics, and electric vehicle demonstration projects. These agreements align with Singapore's Green Plan 2030.

Hyundai Motor Group signed two memoranda of understanding with Singaporean agencies on Friday, November 1, 2025, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and K-Tech Showcase event in Gyeongju, South Korea. The first agreement, with the Economic Development Board (EDB), focuses on exploring opportunities for low-carbon technology development, including hydrogen energy solutions. The partners will identify and pursue projects with Singapore-based companies and startups, potentially utilizing the country's pipeline network for hydrogen distribution. The EDB, under Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry, promotes investment, industrial development, and innovation.

This initiative aims to address logistical challenges and enhance resource efficiency under Singapore's Green Plan 2030. Hyundai operates the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore, its first global open innovation hub and test bed. Park Jae-ha, head of Hyundai Motor's global hydrogen business sub-division, stated, "By bringing our cutting-edge expertise in hydrogen technology, this partnership represents a significant step forward in creating a clean energy future for Singapore." Zheng Jingxin, vice president and head of the mobility division at the EDB, said, "This partnership is closely aligned to Singapore's commitment to develop a low-carbon economy. This will strengthen Singapore's position as a global innovation hub within Hyundai Motor Group's global network."

The second MOU, with the Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX), targets cooperation on advanced mobility technologies. Established in 2019 under Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs, HTX develops technologies for public safety, border security, chemical and biological defense, and security systems. The agreement covers joint research on robotics, hydrogen, and other future mobility technologies. Hyundai will conduct a pilot project through 2028 to demonstrate technologies improving the efficiency of Singapore's government fleet using its multipurpose modular electric platform—the first such demonstration with an Asian government's operational fleet. The project supports Singapore's electric vehicle transition and sustainable transportation infrastructure. Hyundai plans to provide vehicle development support and direct supplies via partnerships with HTX and its Singapore innovation center. Kim Il-bum, executive vice president of Hyundai Motor's global policy office, said, "We will continue to lead global innovation based on future technologies, including robotics and hydrogen, while conducting mobility technology demonstrations through this partnership."
