Andrea Johnson, head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption, is facing accusations of leaking information to a police officer named in a complaint. A ministerial statement has raised concerns about the unit's credibility.
Allegations against Johnson emerged at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. The commission is examining claims of a criminal cartel infiltrating the state. A central claim is that Johnson passed details of a criminal complaint to senior Crime Intelligence officer Feroz Khan, who is named in the complaint.
Johnson's CV, submitted last year during her candidacy for National Director of Public Prosecutions, lists meetings with Crime Intelligence and names Khemraj Behari as a reference. Behari, head of legal services at Ekurhuleni Metro, was recently arrested. Johnson has stated she had nothing to hide and has since removed Behari as a reference.
On 17 July 2026, Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and National Director of Public Prosecutions Andy Mothibi met Johnson to address credibility concerns at IDAC. They said practical solutions would be communicated later and urged continued public support for the unit.
