Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met more than 200 Global Capability Centre leaders on Wednesday and pledged to attract 500 new centres to the state by 2029.
The meeting took place at the KATALYST CONNECT event organised by the Department of Electronics, Information Technology and Biotechnology and the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission. Mr. Shivakumar said the centres would create 3.5 lakh jobs and generate $50 billion in economic output by 2029.
He told attendees that Karnataka would allow double floor area ratio in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and would build a 123 km Bengaluru Business Corridor at a cost of ₹26,000 crore in the first phase. Additional tunnel and flyover projects are planned, with total spending on Bengaluru development set at ₹1.5 lakh crore.
Minister Priyank Kharge stressed the need to support the shift of Global Capability Centres from delivery roles to hubs for Artificial Intelligence, engineering and research. Representatives from Google, Intel, IBM, JPMorgan Chase and other firms attended the consultation.
