North Korean leader Kim Jong-un oversaw weapons tests aboard the destroyer Kang Kon on Friday, state media reported Sunday.
Kim Jong-un observed tests of a strategic cruise missile, naval artillery, automatic machine guns and electronic warfare systems from the 5,000-ton destroyer Kang Kon, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
The leader instructed officials to complete the trial process and commission the warship into the Navy within two months. He also called for accelerating efforts to strengthen the country's war deterrent.
In June last year, North Korea launched the Kang Kon after an initial attempt that caused the vessel to tip over. Last month, the country commissioned another 5,000-ton destroyer named the Choe Hyon.
