McLaren driver Lando Norris believes Ferrari would dominate the 2026 Formula 1 season if it improved its engine performance to match its chassis strength. His comments followed Lewis Hamilton's victory for Ferrari at the Barcelona Grand Prix.
Norris stated after the race that McLaren is fortunate Ferrari lacks engine power.
"We're lucky that Ferrari don't have a better engine at the minute," Norris told Sky Sports. "If they had a better engine, they're dominating."
He noted Ferrari's cornering superiority and warned that engine upgrades could allow the team to embarrass competitors. Teammate Oscar Piastri echoed concerns about McLaren's growing deficit to the leaders.
Mercedes had won the first six grands prix of the season before Hamilton's Barcelona victory ended the streak. Ferrari received upgrade tokens based on recent ADUO results showing it over 4 percent behind the Red Bull engine benchmark.
McLaren sits third in the standings, 121 points behind Mercedes and 49 behind Ferrari.
